Domaine Weinbach, hands down, is the greatest producer in Alsace in our view. The estate produces great perfumed, single-vineyard white wines in a range of sweetness levels. Its Riesling is, of course, exceptional, but so is the Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer, Riesling, as well as other white varieties. Grapes are all sourced from prized Grand Cru vineyards. The resulting wine is a noble and supreme expression of the Alsace terroir. The estate lies at the foot of the Schlossberg slopes. Running through the property is a playful stream in which the estate derives its name.

The wine offers up a beautiful aromatic constellation of lychee nut, peach, rosewater, a dollop of soil and a potpourri of musky floral tones in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and nicely balanced, with more soil signature on the palate than the nose suggests, a fine core, sound, gentle acidity and lovely length and grip on the complex and wide open finish. There is not a lot in reserve here and the wine will drink best in its youth, but it has charm and plenty of personality out of the blocks.

Yellow - green color. Precise aromas of caramelized tropical fruits, minerals, spring flowers and while pepper. At once pliant and firm, showing terrific inner - mouth energy to its perfumed floral and exotic fruit flavors. Nicely integrated acidity gives this wine a steely spine and a lovely sugar/acid balance. Finishes firm, delicate and long. This is made from roughly 45 - year - old vines.
